Nomade – Stainless Steel Made

Nomade is a giant sculpture made by Spanish artist Jaume Plensa and bought by John Pappajohn for his sculpture garden. By taking a closer look, this 25 foot sculpture is put together by stainless steel letters, formed into a shape of a sitting human with arms wrapped around his knees. People at the park can walk and sit inside Nomade. The lighting installed at the ground creates a spectacular effect on the sculpture at night. This is one extraordinary contemporary art.

More Than Just Stairs

Imagine no suspension, no handrails, only folded sheet metal climbing on the wall up to the next floor. Watch your footing because this sheet metal stairs can send you quivers. Made of 10mm thick sheet metal, the sheet metal stairs is a combination of modern art and utility. However, it seems that it is more useful as just a wall art than it is as stairs.

Basic Sheet Metal Measuring and Marking Tools

Sheet metal workers use basic and special tools to measure and cut specific sheet metal lengths and sizes. It is necessary for a sheet metal worker to posses these tools as each tool has its own use.

Measuring:

Lay outing sheet metal requires the use of a tape measure to measure larger sizes and longer lengths. A circumference rule is also needed to make precise measurements and for calculating round pipe circumference. Dividers are used to divide circles by determining radius points.

Marking tools:

A sheet metal worker needs to have a marking tool at hand all the time. It is used to draw a line or mark a point of measurement.

Marker – a marker has a thick felt tip which makes it a good tool to use for creating bends or marking cut points.

Awl – awl has a pointed tip, making it a good tool to mark precise measurements for cutting.

Squares:

It is important for sheet metal workers to make precise angles in sheet metal. Using a square is a fast and accurate way to create a 90 degree corner angle on sheet metal.

Angle finders are also the best tools to use when locating an accurate angle form 0-180 degrees.

There are still other tools necessary for sheet metal workers. Find out more about the special tools used when working on sheet metal.

Sharpening a Lawnmower Blade

Lawnmower blades need to be sharpened at some time during its life to maintain its outstanding cutting ability. You can do it yourself if you know how to do it correctly with the use of appropriate tools.

With the help of this instructional video, learn how to sharpen your blunt lawnmower blade and get that perfect lawn.
You will need a few things to start with. You will need to have a vice, an angle grinder with a grinding disc, a blade balancer, and safety glasses.

It is important to wear safety glasses all the time during metal works to prevent metal shavings to get into your eyes. The vice will be needed to hold the blade in place during the sharpening process. Run the grinding disc along the angle of the blade to sharpen it. The blade balancer is useful to check if both sides of the blade are equal. Once the other side tips, it means it needs more shaving off. Once it’s level, then it means your blade is good to go.
